The Beginning
Larchfield Trees is owned by Cathie Kenney helped by her husband Neil.
The business was born out of an interest in Bonsai some 23 years ago when Cath was
given a Weeping fig (ficus benjamima) indoor Bonsai for a birthday present, it was
killed with kindness. Then Cath bought Neil a Trident maple (acer buergeranum) outdoor
Bonsai and from there a collection was formed as the bug started to bite and
in 1990 Larchfield Bonsai was established.
By hiring local Village Halls and Sports Clubs, Larchfield Bonsai promoted their own exhibitions and sales, and also attended small garden shows around the Midlands.
In 1993 Larchfield Bonsai made its first appearance at the Malvern Spring Garden Show
with a small trade stand and display of Bonsai. It was whilst exhibiting at the Malvern Shows
that the Japanese Maple (Acer palmatum) started to slowly take over from the Bonsai.
They were grown and sold side by side the Bonsai for the next few years until the Maples really
became the favourite plants and Larchfield Trees was established.
Larchfield Trees currently attend up to 8 horticultural shows in a season,
this includes trade stands at the major RHS shows.
Winner of 2 RHS Gold Medals
Sales
Larchfield Trees only sell Japanese Maples at the garden shows they attend during
the season, they do not have a retail outlet at the nursery.
